The appearance of clinical symptoms in a young patient (even in infancy) is an indication for active therapeutic management. Recurrent urinary tract infections, difficulty urinating (with spraining of the foreskin), or recurrent inflammation of the foreskin should be a cause for concern. In this case, the boy should be referred for consultation to an experienced pediatric surgeon or urologist.

What does phimosis treatment look like?

Treatment includes surgery or circumcision. Commonly used surgical techniques include, for example, the Schloffer technique. The procedures are performed under local anesthesia (penile conduction) or under general anesthesia. Indications for surgical treatment of phimosis are recurrent local infections and urinary tract infections.

Circumcision is a safe surgical procedure with a low level of complications. In this case, the surgeon removes the narrowed foreskin and sutures the skin of the penis. In some cases, with abdominal flexion of the penis, the elongation of the short frenulum is performed simultaneously with circumcision.
